Q: Unexplained yowling
A friend of mine has a young, unneutered male domestic short hair, about 8 months old, who has been displaying some odd behavior on and off. For a day or two, he will yowl as if in discomfort, and he will not place his hind end down o any surface. After that time, the symptoms will disappear, and he will seem perfectly normal. This will occur again at what seem a random length of time, and once again the symptoms will vanish. So far, this has happened three times. What could be causing this sort of behavior?

Hello.
I recommend that they take their cat to a veterinarian or animal hospital ASAP if not immediately. It is possible that this cat is suffering from trauma to some other underlying medical problem. The fact that it is howling and will not sit down intermittently is cause enough; however, other symptoms should be noted like lack of appetite or thirst, trouble with elimination, lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea, increased respiratory or heart rate or anything else that may be unusual for their cat. Any symptom noticed should then also be discussed with their veterinarian to help with diagnosis and treatment.
