Q: My RES Turtle
2 questions. 1st question, my turtle swallows her food...should she do that? I've never had a turtle that swallowed her food; but i do give her small pellets so she won't choke on them.
My 2nd question, how much food should a red eared slider eat? She's about 4 inches long, and I'm not exactly sure how much she should eat. But the bad thing is, she's always hungry, so I give her 3 pellets in the morning and 3 at night. She's very active though... :)

Res’s should be fed a varied diet. Res’s are omnivores, they eat both plant and protein (animal matter). Juveniles will eat more protein and adults will eat more vegetable matter. Res’s under six months need to be fed every day; adults can be fed every or every other day. Do not feed more than they can eat; the excess food will go to waste and foul the water. Fed them an amount the size of there head. You can fed them in a separate aquarium or tub to keep the waste out of the main aquarium. Then you can simply empty the tub after feeding them and place the turtle back into their regular tank.
Commercial food such sticks or pellets or floating fish pellets should make up no more than 25%% of their diet if any at all, even though this foods are nutrients they should not be depended on as the sole diet.
Animal Protein such as Earthworms, feeder fish, frozen beef heart, Mealworms, Crickets, blood worms, brime shrimp, etc… should make up 25%% of their diet.
Plant Matter should make up the other 50%% of there diet. You can feed Collard greens Mustard greens, Dandelions rinsed and free of pesticide, Carrots (shredded root and top), Squash, Green beans, Sweet potatoes, Apples (shredded) Melon Berries Bananas Grapes Tomatoes Plums, peaches, nectarines (NO PITS)
Never feed him/her spinach, broccoli, ice burg, or bananas.
Plant the tank with aquatic plants that are safe like anacharis, cabomba, hornwort, etc….
Res’s need additional calcium also, provided a calcium block, or cuttlebone, so they may gnaw on it at well.
Cut all food in to small piece, my res’s sallow it hole too, it’s normal.
