Q: Going Away On Vacation!

I'm going away on vacation and my father will be taking care of my budgie birds for three weeks. Is there anything I should worry about or have problems with? I've left lots of food and new toys and cleaning supplies for him, I've showed him how to handle them and clean the cage, check the food and water. He has numbers to the vet, and knows how to give them their baths. Is there anything I've missed?? I think I'm good. They know him and trust him.

Any thoughts and advice is appreciated,
Thanks.

A: Going Away On Vacation!

As long as your birds are comfortable with your father, and he is comfortable with them, they should be fine. Are you leaving them at your house or are they staying at your dad's? It might be better to leave them at your house so that they don't have to adjust to new surroundings as well. Also, they will probably be subdued for a while since they'll wonder where you are and you are their primary caregiver. You may want to increase the time your dad spends with them a little each day before you leave. And if you didn't need new toys, that may be one change that they could do without until you are back and they know that you aren't leaving them with someone new for good.
Does your dad know when it is an emergency and he NEEDS to call the vet?
Other than that, it sounds like you have it covered.. have fun on vacation!
