Q: Keeping multiple dwarf hamsters together

I've read everywhere that dwarf hamsters enjoy having a cagemate, obviously the same sex unless you're breeding them. I also have gathered that it is best to put them in the cage together at an early age, and at the same time so that one of them doesn't "claim" the cage as their own territory. Now, having said all that, do males or females get along better? I've been told that dwarf males get along to begin with, but then get territorial as they get older, is this true? If so, would I be better off getting a pair of females? Thanks for the info!
