Cricket food and Leos
I was wondering: what all SHOULDN'T you feed crickets to give to Leo Geckos (other than the obvious)?

You should not feed crix anything you wouldn't feed your leo.. and you should not feed your leo anything YOU wouldn't eat. With that, I don't mean the things you feed the leos can't include crickets ;D Just meaning all veggies and greens should be cleaned, and not looking like it belongs to the trash can.
They eat many things, about everything. Fish flakes are good, and you could try those bearded dragon pellets. You can dust the food with vitamines and calcium, the crickets will eat this and become a healthy meal for your leos.
Carrots, apple slices and potatoes are nice, and provides moisture, if you are keeping crickets. Without moisture (and enough food) they'll start eating eachother. (yuck)

A: BEST CRIX FOODS
My opinon is that lettice(not iceberg) is the best because most have enough water in them to keep the crixs alive but still make them full.
Carrots, apples, oranges, and pinapples tend to go bad within a half hour or so
potatos look like they have dried out on the outside but are still good on the inside.
misting the cage will hydrate the crixs very quickly.
when raiseing none feeder crixs, like pin heads that you dont want until bigger, feed them iceberg lettice up untill 2 days before being eatin.

I would go with slivered or sliced carrots, apple slices, orange or banana peels, or sweet potatoe slices. Lettuce is pretty nutritionally void and Iceberg is the worst. Basic potatoes are also sadly lacking in nutrition, crickets are only packed with them because they take forever to completely dry out and are cheap.
Sweet potatoe contains carotin and vitamin A both of which will benefit your lizard. If you slice you apples thinly (1/4 inch) the crickets will be able to get at more of the surface area and often will devour it nearly immediatly, same with carrots and sweet potatoe.
Lettuce is great for providing waters but if you want a more nutritious bug you feed it more nutritious foods, dark green, leafy veggies like kale and spinach, veggies with orange "meats" like certain squash and sweet potatoes and carrots, are great food for feeder insects, provide necessary liquids, and if prepared properly in the amounts needed, are rarely left over to have to clean up. As a rule I keep close to 1000 crickets any given week to feed to my lizards and whatnot and I find that more energy in equals more energy out. I have a great dry food recipe that I feed along with a variety of these types of fruits and veggies and everyone is happy.
I hope this offers you some new options, have a good day.

Crix should be fed right up until you feed them to your lizards. I also make a mix of oats, cheerios, krispies and other bran cereals, add a pinch or two of flake fish food for protein. Mix well and sprinkle on bottom of crix container. Put the orange halves on top of the egg cartons and paper rolls, and watch the crix devour them. Interesting pass-time...
