Breed identification...
I recently fostered two kittens and ...yes...I kept one of them. : )
But I was wondering...I mean I identify him as maine coon/tabby mix but I see so many new breeds of cats and I was wondering if anyone else could identify his breed as something else?
His picture is at http://www.geocities.com/chevellechic28/miso1.jpg
Thanks so much!

Breed identification...
I can't see the picture, BUT, it is rare to get a cat that is a true mixed breed. 99%% of cats that come into shelters are just plain domestic short/longhairs. I'm not saying it's impossible that you have a mix, but it's not that common. Lots of people assume that because their cat happens to look like a Maine Coon, an American Shorthair, or an Angora, they have to have some purbred in them, but these breeds occurred naturally in the areas they came from. Yes, many generations back they may have common ancestry, but not recent enough to call them a mix breed. In addition, tabby is a color, not a breed, so you really can't have a cat that's a tabby mix. Almost any breed can have a tabby- tabby Persians, tabby Orientals, tabby
American Shorthairs, etc. I'm not trying to be mean here, but I see so many people trying to pass of strays as purebreds, it gets on my nerves sometimes. Just a pet peeve, I guess.
